Donatello

St. George by Donatello (This is a bronze copy of the original, which was marble)
Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi, or more known as Donatello was a sculptor during the early Renaissance period. He was born in c. 1386 in Florence, Italy and went on to study classical sculpture while learning to work with materials such as stone, bronze, wood, clay, stucco(a fine plaster) and wax. Donatello was praised for many of his great works and some of them became the basis and inspirations for future artists. Donatello would often work using with a technique called bas relieft or "low relief". This process can be seen in the making of coins from that time period but Donatello would often use it to add to portions of his sculptures. For example, Donatello used a relief to create the image of Adam and Eve on the back of a piece, created for the Basilica of St. Anthony.
