Function

I recently took a tour of Auburn University while I was there visiting friends. Out in front of Jordan-Hare Stadium, there are three bronze statues of former football players that attended Auburn and had won the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Current quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton, is Auburn's most recent Heisman recipient (pictured above, next to Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius). While the two statues differ in their visual form, their functions are similiar. Statues are great at preserving special moments and history and evoke feelings in those that find meaning in them. Newton's statue will be seen by thousands of Auburn fans everytime they enter the stadium for a football game and will not only be a reminder of Newton's accomplishments but also the team's success that season.
